Road-trip range is affected by speed, weather, elevation, load, tyres, climate control and detours. Build margin into the plan instead of relying on the vehicle’s best-case figure.
Plan the critical charging legs
Identify the sections where alternative charging is limited. Those legs deserve the largest range buffer and the most careful access checks.
Keep a backup stop
For each important fast-charging stop, know the next practical alternative. A backup should be reachable even if the first charger is unavailable.
Check operating conditions
Look for site opening hours, parking restrictions, payment requirements and whether facilities are available while you charge.
Allow for charging curves
Your vehicle may charge quickly at a lower state of charge and slow as the battery fills. Several shorter sessions can sometimes be faster than fewer very long sessions.
Recheck on the day
Conditions and charger status can change after planning. Review the route before departure and again before committing to a critical charging leg.
